Saturday Is For the Veterans!
At Camp 37 every night is technically Veteran's Night because that's why we're here... to raise money for the Veteran's. However, on Saturday of Blessing of the Bikes Weekend, Jerry Welcome, a veteran himself and organizer of the Ruby Creek Disabled Veterans Hunt Club, travels down to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans and picks up a few disabled veterans in the morning, so that they can have a day out with people that very much appreciate them. We give them star treatment from the first moment they get close. Our Poker Run that runs Saturday morning, along with local law enforcement, meets the Veterans during their journey and is escorted to the AM Vets in Baldwin, Michigan.
After the Veterans have a meal and hang out with the AM Vets in Baldwin, they come to Camp 37 for a flag dedication ceremony just for them.
Then it's time for some fun and games. We host biker games that the Veterans can watch, participate in, or even win! Then, it's dinner time! All of the Veterans and campers enjoy a hog roast with all the fixings and even the option of chicken as well. We also hold other activities, such as an auction that we raise funds for the Ruby Creek Disabled Veterans Hunt Club. In 2019, we were able to donate $1500 and $1000 in 2020 even though we were unable to have an event, thanks to our patrons who carried over their camping registrations. We're looking to donate a lot more this year. We finish out the night with live music and a fire show.
